I have always enjoyed sending hampers to special business associates or colleagues to say a seasonal ‘thank you’, but over the years I have discovered that my close family and friends really appreciate speciality hampers that come with their favourite food, tea, coffee and wine.

Last year I sent my my bestie a hamper each which included something for everyone, including her husband and their three kids.  So I have been requested to repeat the gesture this year.

To give you an idea of the content, it included her special label coffee, their best choice in Malbec and chocolate and treats for their young offspring.

Here are some of my favourite Hampers:

I adore receiving a hamper from Fortnum’s, not only because I love the quality of contents, but because their baskets are great to keep for storage throughout the year.

Their perennially popular Classic Christmas Hamper presents everything you need for the big day. It contains a range of wine and drinks, both still and sparkling, rich and delicious puddings, utterly buttery biscuits and the sweetest to crunchiest of food jars.

Total: £175

It comes with Fiorito Prosecco and Golden snowflake Christmas cake.  It also includes a yummy selection of Belgian milk chocolate coated mint flavoured cream biscuits, a Robin tin filled with all butter petticoat tails shortbread, chocolate assortment, jams, marmalade, luxury gold tea tin, wine and non-alcoholic drinks.  Presented in a dark-stained handmade wicker hamper with brown faux-leather straps.

Total:  £100

Paul Langlier champagne, with all the trimmings of cake, chocolates, truffles and a great combination of Christmas festive delights.  Comes in traditional picnic basket.

Total:  £99.60

This contains some incredibly good Christmas ‘must haves’ from Sauvignon Blanc to Prosecco, and exquisite Christmas fruit cake to Christmas pudding, fudge and truffles.  It has also got a five out of five star rating.  It is delivered in a gorgeous basket, and is of course extremely competitive on price.

Total:  £79.99

The Truth about Turmeric – from Turmerlicious founder Maggie Howell

The Truth about Turmeric – from Turmerlicious founder Maggie Howell

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Turmeric is most definitely flavour of the month, appearing in everything from face creams to ice creams, but we recently came across a really lovely way to take turmeric which is not only delicious but ensures your body is fully able to absorb the turmeric

An “easy option” to take turmeric in capsules which are now very readily available however, there are quite a few drawbacks to this.

  1. Most capsules are made from predominantly one compound (curcumin) and so you miss out on the other 299 compounds found in the whole root!
  2. Turmeric is fat soluble so you have to take it with fat for it to be absorbed into your gut (hence many supplements just pass straight through you).
  3. Turmeric also needs to be buddied up with pepper for it to be fully absorbed (research has shown it increases absorption by 2000%).
  4. And finally you need heat as that makes the curcumin more soluble and so more easily absorbed into the body

With all this in mind, we were delighted to come across Turmerlicious turmeric lattes  –  a delicious blend of coconut (a great fat), turmeric, ginger, cinnamon with that all important hint of black pepper. To make the drink you simply add boiling water (heat) to 3 teaspoons of the blend and stir. This combination ensures your body is able to fully absorb, and so benefit from the turmeric.

The beauty of Turmerlicious is that it is not only super healthy, so easy to make and maximises the absorption of turmeric, it is also vegan, dairy free, uses no refined sugar and is caffeine free (apart from a small amount of caffeine in the chocolate versions) so perfect as a bed time drink!

There are four delicious natural flavours to choose from vanilla, ginger, choco and chilli choc, which all of contain approx 1.5 grams of whole turmeric root powder:-

As Turmerlicious have offered all Glotime TV members a warming 20% off, you can treat yourselves to a delicious and healthy alternative to tea, coffee or hot chocolate which ensures you get a good daily dose of turmeric. Wallis Simpson famously said, ‘a girl can never be too rich or too thin’ – well I don’t agree with that, but my motto is ‘A Girl Can’t have too many shoes’!!

Imelda Marcos allegedly had 3000 pairs of shoes in her ever expanding wardrobe.  Can you really blame her, as she had so many functions to go to and certainly had to match the different outfits, besides which it was a bit of a passion for her too.

We have learned in recent years with reflexology that our feet represent different areas of our entire body, so why not nurture them.  Shoes should be added to our list of psychological wellbeing ‘must haves’ for the sheer bliss of wearing comfortable but beautiful adornments on our feet.

I have found as I get older, I am struggling to wear the shoes I proudly donned in my teens and early twenties, and would never be seen dead in a pair of Clarks or wider fit shoes.  But then to be fair, these brands have upped their game and made their designs far more elegant and catwalk friendly.

If you are struggling with wearing heels, invest in a pair of Dr Scholls party heels at only £4.49, and wear shoes around the house days before the party to break them in and get used to the height and balance, you so that you can enjoy them to the full.  I recently spotted a gorgeous pair of stilettos and wanted to buy them anyway, in spite of the fact I knew they would probably kill me.  The shop assistant just flung me a throwaway line as I walked out the door – ‘don’t forget to practise’.  It made a big difference.

Here are some party ‘must haves’ for you in the shoe department:

Clarks – Ellis Ruby – Rose Gold Leather party shoe, lovely to look at and easy to wear.  £69.

Shoe Embassy – hand crafted shoes are an investment – blissfully comfortable and made from comfy leather, one review said ‘I’m having an affair – this is my second pair’ I spotted this gorgeous shoe aptly entitled ‘Exotic’ now only £47.50.

New Look have some amazing bargains as always, and one I thought you would like is this sexy black faux snake pointed court for only £19.99.

Very.co.uk have a multitude of wonderful choices, and I just fell in love with this unique pair of ‘Irregular choice Nick of Time party heel shoe’.  Yes, that is its name and well worth considering for its sheer style and comfort at £82.

So get in there girls, and start practising!
