SUMMER ISN’T OVER YET – YOUR GUIDE TO SEPTEMBER SIZZLERS WITH NOVASOL
Whilst August signals the beginning of the end of summer for many, we think it’s time to start packing your bags, rather than packing it in. In Europe we are blessed with a number of destinations that deliver on toasty temperatures and blue skies long after summer has officially shut up shop. Here we give you three of our favourite Indian summer locations that don’t actually require you to sit on a flight for 10 hours. We’ve also teamed up with NOVASOL Holiday Homes to give you the best suggestions of where to stay from as little as £20 per person per night. Don’t believe us? Just watch.
SICILY – AVERAGE SEPTEMBER TEMPERATURES: 17-24°C
Sicily by no means gets sleepy when summer draws to a close, erupting (see what we did there?) with events ranging from food festivals to Jazz concerts and authentic village fairs. With slightly less scorchio temperatures, it’s even a better time to climb the eponymous Mount Etna. If your boots weren’t made for walking, however, there are plenty of lower altitude delights to sample. Head to the Sicily Food Festival in Cefalù on the 7th-10th for everything from soft-centred arancini to scoops of gelato in a brioche bun. Oh and don’t even get us started on the beaches.

ALGARVE – AVERAGE SEPTEMBER TEMPERATURES: 17-29°C
Just across the pond from Africa, it’s no wonder that southern Portugal radiates warmth well into September. With gorgeous stretches of powdery sand and effortlessly casual towns like Faro and Olhão thrown into the mix, a post-summer holiday is a cunning way to beat the crowds and capitalise on all that this popular region has to offer. Join the culinary celebrations at the Fisherman’s Festival in Albufeira (whatever you do, don’t miss specialties like razor clam rice and grilled sardines) or go island hopping around the Ria Formosa without needing to be too liberal with the sun cream.

DALMATIA – AVERAGE SEPTEMBER TEMPERATURES: 19-26°C
If you haven’t been to Croatia’s dazzling Dalmatian coast yet, you are missing out big time. It’s the stuff dreams are made of. Endless beguiling bays, rugged cliffs plunging into clear waters and deep pine forests make up just part of this hugely appealing destination. Dalmatia is not just for active adventurers and beach bunnies – culture vultures have been circling the region for decades now. Head to Dubrovnik in September for sword fighting displays in traditional costume, classical music performances, or feel jammy at the official festival of marmalades and preserves!
