Suzi Quatro – I Sold My Soul Today

Suzi Quatro – I Sold My Soul Today

It’s got to be a very special release that has Suzi Quatro announce proudly: “The Devil In Me is the best album in my career to date!” After all, the American rock vocalist would hardly utter such superlatives lightly. Suzi’s enthusiasm for her latest offering has many reasons, twelve of them to be precise. Because The Devil In Me consists of exactly a dozen songs, each of them – from the opening track and title song to the final ‘Motor City Riders’ – a real highlight.

The reasons for Suzi’s remarkable creative explosion: on the one hand the lockdown, which kept her from her usual touring life in spring 2020, and on the other another collaboration with her son Richard Tuckey, which had already worked out extremely well on her predecessor album No Control. Suzi: “Starting spring 2020, almost one hundred of my shows were cancelled and Richard would also have been on tour with his band had not all concerts been cancelled or postponed. So, I said to him: ‘We should make the most of our free time, write new material and allow ourselves to be inspired by the things that are currently going on in the world.’ I already knew that Richard and I make a brilliant team, after all No Control had been a major success and a very special recording for us. Although I would never have thought that we’d be able to surpass it. But everybody who’s heard The Devil In Me and all the people who had worked on the previous album have told us: ‘This album is even stronger!’”

The album presents Suzi’s full range of musical diversity plus a number of surprises. From rock tracks such as ‘The Devil In Me’, ‘Get Outta Jail’, ‘Motorcity Riders’ and ‘Hey Queenie’ (“these four songs are typical of me and continue the tradition of my 1973 debut album”) to fairly unusual numbers such as the pub atmosphere-inspired ‘Loves Gone Bad’ with its intimate mood or ‘In The Dark’ which is accompanied by elegant piano and provocative saxophone sounds, Suzi presents herself from a whole range of different aspects. “Richard wanted this album to have a through line, so that you could put any track on, and it just  fit… he also said he wanted this album to be as important and ground breaking as my first one. So that is how we approached this project, and that is what we accomplished.”

CELEBRATING SYLVIA ANDERSON ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY – A PIONEER FOR WOMEN IN TELEVISION

CELEBRATING SYLVIA ANDERSON ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY – A PIONEER FOR WOMEN IN TELEVISION

Sylvia Anderson was born in Camberwell, London to Sid (Tiger) Thomas, a formidable bare knuckle Boxer and Beatrice Aberdeen-Thomas, a Seamstress and Dress Designer.

Sylvia’s early ambition was to become an Actress, as she became enthralled with theatre and Hollywood movies as she grew up in war torn London.   She won a scholarship to the London School of Economics, and eventually become a writer and film producer.

Sylvia met her husband Gerry Anderson in the late fifties and they became the most admired and successful husband and wife team in the history of television, producing epics like Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet.

Sylvia’s creativity and inspiration lead her to create many of their characters, including the iconic puppet Lady Penelope, a female secret agent who smashed female stereotypes and was an inspiration to children across the Globe.  Sylvia knew the World needed an inspirational woman protagonist and so Penelope Creighton-Ward was born.

Sylvia then went on to create the Angels, in Captain Scarlet a fleet of female Pilots in the sixties, when women were rarely recognised as heroes, and so once again way ahead of her time.

Sylvia’s characters and creations are as strong today as they were when launched over five decades ago.  A Sundial Statue stands in her name at her beloved Pinewood Studios, where she visited as a young woman and had a vision that she would one day return with her own movie production.  This she achieved several times over, and is now heralded as ‘A Pioneer for Women in Television’.

New Album Release – PERFECT STRANGERS ‘HOPE’

New Album Release – PERFECT STRANGERS ‘HOPE’

Everyone from Paul McCartney, Bruce & The E Street Band to the Rolling Stones, Beyonce, Adele, Alicia, pub entertainers and millions more have nowhere to play.

Lockdowns and Quarantines shut down West End Theatres, Broadway, Las Vegas, Stadium Concerts, Clubs & Bars. It’s been a global disaster for the performing arts.

BUT – there is HOPE!

Perfect Strangers

HOPE

HOPE is a song for the times – written by Barbadian, James “Jimmy” Duncan & Bermudian Tony Brannon. Lyrics in the form of a poem were sent by Tony to Jimmy inspiring him to write the music plus additional lyrics.

The verses talk about the reality of not seeing any live music or fans going to a football game, be it soccer in Liverpool or any global sporting event. 2020 and 2021 feels like a long dark night – lonely prisoners in our homes. The Covid pandemic has resulted in millions of lives lost around the world. Businesses and livelihoods have been shattered.

H O P E – is what keeps us alive when things don’t always go our way. Breathe in and out, hold on be strong, we are gonna make it through this.
