That is what it says on my makeup bag which was a present from a friend, and I mean it.
Whats in my makeup bag?
I concentrate on my eyes, because they were the inspiration behind a very famous television character, Lady Penelope. You would think I would shout it from the rooftops but when you are constantly told something by your mother when growing you tend to take it for granted.
As I get older, I do realise the significance of it, and as Sylvia Anderson (mum) was a pioneer of women in television and was indeed the creator and visionary for the iconic female Secret Agent, I am beginning to appreciate the accolade and share it around.
The face and bone structure of the puppet was based on my mother, but the shape and colour of the eyes were influenced by mine as a child.
Also, as Dr Aamar Khan, skin and cosmetic guru of Harley Street Skin Clinic said, my eyes are my ‘Centrepiece’. How lovely to hear that from such an expert, and of course I must now emphasise them even more.
It is always important to mois
Foundation
Mac Mineralize Moisture Spf15 Foundation
I begin with a light moisturising foundation Mac Mineralize Moisture Spf15 Foundation which I apply all over my face and neck, including the eyes.
Blusher
dusky vintage rose pink blusher
A dusky vintage rose pink. Takes me back when I used to raid my grandmother’s dressing table, and try on her rouge. It has a similar scent too, delicious.
Eyeshadow
Benefit, they’re Real! Big sexy eye kit
Then I use Benefit, they’re Real! Big sexy eye kit with their smoky range of colours from beyond nude to bombshell brown.
Eyeliner
Rimmel exaggerate eyeliner
Rimmel exaggerate eyeliner is my absolute fave. You may think I have downgraded from my more exclusive options, but believe me this is smooth and slick and stays on for hours.
Volume Mascara
Dr Huuschka Volume Mascara
Dr Huuschka Volume Mascara is super creamy and thick and you really don’t need false eyelashes if you apply two or three times, allowing the mascara to dry in between applications.
Lipstick
luscious red lipstick
If you are feeling sexy and dangerous, then La Voix is a great luscious red lipstick, and can be obtained from the website of the same name. I tend to wear it at night but tone down my look during the day with a paler tone, using Clinique, chubby stick – 02 whole lotta honey.

My mother was always a great inspiration to me, yet another reason why I miss her so much. But as many of you know who have lost loved ones who are close to you, their voice will always resonate with you and their inspiration is eternal.
My Mother was always full of beauty advice and would say that hair is our most important asset – and that is true. Hair really is our crowning glory, and if it is right, good hair can add to our confidence and make us feel we can conquer the World.
As a child, my mother would always take me with her when visiting a hair salon. This was the swinging sixties and as she was then one of the most successful theatrical agents, she frequented the most iconic hairdressers of the time – Leonard, Ricci Burns, Vidal Sassoon to name but a few.
Ricci Burns
The salons were full of celebrities and a truly magical place for a child. I remember telling everyone at school that my hair had cost an entire £2, and no one believed a haircut could be so expensive!!
I always say that I’ve had more husbands than hairdressers but that’s not strictly true! Only 2 people have cut my hair since I was 14. The first was Michael Strum from Crimpers in Baker Street. From the moment he first cut my hair in the early 70’s until he died tragically in 2000, I never went anywhere else. When he died, I was devastated, I had also lost a very good friend and the only person I trusted with cutting my hair.
Then by chance can I found the astonishing Ian Denson – who was working at John Frieda. At the time he was their top stylist and salon manager and I’ve followed him around London and to many other salons ever since. He has also become a great friend and a mentor to me and many of my friends.
Ian loves long hair and has a knack for making it look thicker and longer each time. I visit Ian probably four or five times a year for his styling, and really couldn’t live without him.
You can contact Ian at ‘Steven Carey Hair’ 22 Maddox Street, Mayfair, LONDON W1S 1PW.

As I now live outside London, I do stay closer to home for the colour and a weekly blow dry, so feel that Louise is my secret weapon as I find it hard to style my own hair. I have a blow dry once or twice a week and colour every three and it’s my lovely Louise that literally brings both me and my hair back to life if I am struggling on both counts.
It is true that a good hairdresser is similar to a therapist and so one guilty pleasure I will never give up are my blow dries or Louise!
Louise has a micro salon in Cobham called ‘Oh So Coco’ and it’s like a dolls house. She entertains only two clients at once which makes me feel pampered and extra special as she does my hair.
Louise looks after me very well, after all, we all need to be pampered. So, I would encourage you all to seek out your own versions of Ian and Louise if you can’t get into London or Cobham, and don’t be ashamed to have relationships with more than one hairdresser at a time. After all, sometimes one person can’t give you everything you need to feel complete, and variety is definitely the spice of life as is your hair.
If you’re near Cobham make an appointment to see Louise – it’s difficult to get an appointment but worth the wait! http://www.louise-carter.com/

Makeup is my passion so I’m always fascinated by what people have in they makeup bags and why!
I’ve asked my friends if they’ll show me theirs so I thought I’d show you mine first!
At present it’s a see through bag from Boots. Travelling a lot I find it easier to be able to see what I’ve got rather
than emptying it out – strange to have got inspiration from the plastic bags at airports!
Note the chewed blusher brush on the right designed by my dogs!
I have an awful lot of stuff on mine so this is in no particular order!!
Charlotte Tilbury film star bronze and glow. I simply love this product. It’s in a beautiful container and it does what it says
on the compact – makes you bronzed and glowing. A great touch up when you’re out!
Pillowplump lip plump – picked up in BOOTS and love it!
Charlotte Tilbury lipstick that I mix (Penelope Pink) with nivea pearly shine which incidentally I use all the time. I’ve used
it for years and keeps my lips lovely and moisturised.
A chewed blusher brush. It has teeth marks on the handle don’t know how they got there!! It’s my favourite.
Strangely my dogs like it too! ?
Bourjois volume clubbing mascara in black. Probably the best mascara I’ve ever used. Sadly very difficult to get now
but Amazon still have it!
3 different Charlotte Tilbury lip liners.
Bare minerals bare pro compact. A Fabulous product and you can keep adding to it without it going cakey. A great way
to lightly powder your face.
La Voix lip liner and lip stain – just to die for. I put it on in the evenings when I need to be red!
Max Factor panstick for under my eyes. Best concealer going.- old fashioned and brilliant.
