HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH SHOES

HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH SHOES

Wallis Simpson famously said, ‘a girl can never be too rich or too thin’ – well I don’t agree with that, but my motto is ‘A Girl Can’t have too many shoes’!!

Imelda Marcos allegedly had 3000 pairs of shoes in her ever expanding wardrobe.  Can you really blame her, as she had so many functions to go to and certainly had to match the different outfits, besides which it was a bit of a passion for her too.

We have learned in recent years with reflexology that our feet represent different areas of our entire body, so why not nurture them.  Shoes should be added to our list of psychological wellbeing ‘must haves’ for the sheer bliss of wearing comfortable but beautiful adornments on our feet.

I have found as I get older, I am struggling to wear the shoes I proudly donned in my teens and early twenties, and would never be seen dead in a pair of Clarks or wider fit shoes.  But then to be fair, these brands have upped their game and made their designs far more elegant and catwalk friendly.

If you are struggling with wearing heels, invest in a pair of Dr Scholls party heels at only £4.49, and wear shoes around the house days before the party to break them in and get used to the height and balance, you so that you can enjoy them to the full.  I recently spotted a gorgeous pair of stilettos and wanted to buy them anyway, in spite of the fact I knew they would probably kill me.  The shop assistant just flung me a throwaway line as I walked out the door – ‘don’t forget to practise’.  It made a big difference.

Here are some party ‘must haves’ for you in the shoe department:

Clarks – Ellis Ruby – Rose Gold Leather party shoe, lovely to look at and easy to wear.  £69.

Shoe Embassy – hand crafted shoes are an investment – blissfully comfortable and made from comfy leather, one review said ‘I’m having an affair – this is my second pair’ I spotted this gorgeous shoe aptly entitled ‘Exotic’ now only £47.50.

New Look have some amazing bargains as always, and one I thought you would like is this sexy black faux snake pointed court for only £19.99.

Very.co.uk have a multitude of wonderful choices, and I just fell in love with this unique pair of ‘Irregular choice Nick of Time party heel shoe’.  Yes, that is its name and well worth considering for its sheer style and comfort at £82.

FITNESS WITH NIBBLES – THE WINNING FORMULA

FITNESS WITH NIBBLES – THE WINNING FORMULA

They say that every successful creative enterprise is 10 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration, which brings me to the ingenious invention of Nibble Protein Bites, by its founder Erin Moroney.

I say this because Erin is a true creative, having successfully run and co-owned a photographic business for more than 12 years, and was also an agency Art Director and Producer, so nothing to do with food – but she knew there was something wrong when she was constantly tired with low blood sugar, and her nails and hair suffering in the process.

As an avid vegetarian Erin felt she was doing everything right, but when she was told by her nutritionist that she was ‘protein deficient’, and as she was about to run a marathon, she knew it was time to take action for herself, her family and ultimately the rest of the world.

She had previously spent weeks trolling the supermarkets and health food outlets, and discovered there was a serious crack in the market for protein rich snacks.

Erin knew absolutely nothing about creating a food product, let alone launching it onto the competitive market place, but through sheer determination, serious research and her own creativity and passion, she now has her own Brand, which can be purchased in a number of leading outlets, including Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Ocado, to name but a few.

As Erin says ‘We use the finest natural ingredients including antioxidant-rich dried plum purée and a blend of toasted pumpkin/sunflower seeds and crunchy protein crisps (TELL ME MORE. .. ). The bites are super nutritious, with less sugar and more yummy flavours. Perfect for healthy eating on the go.’

Erin has now been nominated for the prestigious Catherine Awards from the Variety Club of Great Britain.

We are really excited to announce that Nibble’s founder, Erin Moroney, is a shortlisted nominee for a prestigious VARIETY CATHERINE RISING STAR AWARD.

Founded in 2016 by Variety (the children’s charity), the Variety Catherine Awards recognise the contributions of women in business. The Rising Star Award honours women who are making a difference in their chosen field and are “women to watch” for the future.

Erin started developing our innovative bites two years ago, after a long career in the creative industry.

The awards are being held in London on the 13th of November 2018.

BEFORE WE SIGN OFF – WE HAVE TO MENTION THE BROWNIES
Made with lots of love for Austin & Julie x

Well, this is a slightly different story! Nibble Brownie Bites were inspired by Erin’s 12 year-old American niece, Julianna. Julie is a notoriously fussy eater who rarely ate any protein (but loved brownies). To help boost her niece’s protein intake (and lower her sugar consumption!), Erin set out on a mission to develop a brownie recipe that passed the Julie-test (ie. it couldn’t look too healthy otherwise she wouldn’t even try it!). Erin’s older nephew, Austin, is a chocoholic (and already a Nibble Protein addict) so he’d love these too. Roughly based on the original recipe, these bites would only include “brownie-stuff” (no seeds or healthy looking bits)—with some sneaky protein snuck in. The brownies proved so popular, they sparked a whole range (with a note to Austin & Julie on the back of every pack)!

And in total contrast to the first range, the brownies came together very quickly (most of the painful points had already been worked out!). You’d never know these little bad boys were 20% dried plum purée (and 18% plant protein).

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE – DO YOU BELIEVE IN ANGELS?

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE – DO YOU BELIEVE IN ANGELS?

I have just ordered my all-time favourite film IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE for Christmas, so that the entire family can enjoy one of the most brilliant tear jerking movies ever made, which has certainly survived the test of time.

Do you believe in angels?  If you don’t now, you certainly will after meeting George Bailey, who has given up on life after losing all his money and is about to end it all when he bumps into Clarence, his guardian angel, who has been sent down to earth to save him.

George has created a lot of good will in his community, and done good for a lot of people, so it is payback time literally, and the entire town rally round and restore his faith in humankind.

Christmas is a magical time of year, and it is when miracles happen, but it did not seem so wonderful last week when a 90 year old lady, well known to her community as a kind and outgoing lady, was sitting in her communal gardens outside her home of 20 years.  She was approached by a lady who pretended to befriend her and was robbed of her entire Christmas savings of £1000 from her handbag, which she did not notice until the lady had gone and was looking for her house keys at her front door.

Betty called the police straight away, but it was too late and she was left distressed and devastated that she couldn’t buy gifts for her children, grandchildren and great grandkids.

Fortunately a living Angel, who is a close neighbour of Betty’s and a young mum herself, Hannah Hammond, stepped in and restored Betty’s faith by running a fundraiser in her name, and has managed to raise the entire £1000 from close friends and neighbours.

A few years ago friends of mine got together and decided to spend Christmas at our local shelter to help cook Christmas Dinner for the homeless.  We may not all be in a position to extend to this sort of help in our community, but we can certainly all make a difference perhaps by listening to a friend or neighbour who may benefit from just a few minute of your time.

So let’s all believe in angels this Christmas, and of course keep a very close ear for ‘Every Time a Bell Rings an Angel gets its Wings’ and that very angel could be you.
