Banish Those Post BREXIT Blues – Bling is The New Black

Banish Those Post BREXIT Blues – Bling is The New Black

For those of us who voted ‘stay’ and are still reeling from the country’s decision to leave the EU, there may be a glimmer of hope for those of us who have heard of Glam Rock. Not that the Band or the era is back, but glitz is certainly big on the catwalk this season.

If we are still under the sway of our elders disapproving eye where glitz is concerned, and are still determined to invest in corduroy and tweets for Autumn, you can still add a bit of sparkly to your wardrobe with shiny heels or handbags, jewellery and accessories.

Let’s face it, how many of us would love to return to our ‘girlie’ days when glitter was just a recognised statement of our wardrobe, and our dreams were multi-coloured shades of perfect pink.

We saw this return to glamour when the brightest gowns donned the red carpet at the Emmys recently which came from high-end fashion houses like Prada and Schiaparelli. These looks were fun, funky and fabulous.

But the look is not just for the rich and famous, and for those of you are pluckier with your gear, then you really can go for broke with the seasonal high street beauties – way before the party season really sets in.

If you want to ease into the glitz arena, you can start by investing in a pair of Swarovski earrings, and there are some stunning pieces from this classy brand.

If you are more daring, and don’t mind the scathing stares of anti-blingites, then go for the sequin trend and get sewing on ripped jeans or T-shirts.

There are also some great nail art glitter options – just check your local nail boutique and be outrageous – start with one nail if you are wary and build up to Christmas.

Check out New York London Fashion Week there was a big come back in sparkle. This is definitely the season to shine in every way – and we should embrace our inner Magpie and shimmer into Fall.

How Important is School Uniform – How Far Should We Go?

How Important is School Uniform – How Far Should We Go?

With the recent incidents at a school in Kent which has made National news – whether we are parents or not, we are all now asking the question – how important is school uniform, and how far should we go in the detail?

The much publicised turning away of a number of kids who are not wearing the exact remit of the school in question, we are all wondering whether this is about the new Head Teacher stamping his authority, without any consideration for the well-being of the children or their circumstances or the good of the school

Whatever your views on school uniform, and I personally like the idea of kids feeling equal and non-competitive with their outfits, still feel that he has taken it too far.

One mother is a single parent, with a very small income and a child minder. She only ordered her son’s blazer two weeks ago as a result of his rapid growth, and is still waiting for its delivery. As a result, her son was turned away, without a thought for her personal circumstances or the availability of her child minder. Fortunately, the minder was contactable, but it could have had a less favourable outcome.

It is true that it has become more and more important for kids to present their latest pair of trainers or designer accessories as a status symbol amongst their peers at schools across the country, which we could argue is a sure fire way of encouraging self-conscious appearancism or body image. But how can we protect our kids from this type of media influence, when it is on every bill board, newspaper, magazine and television advertisement.marple-hall-school

A very close friend of mine made the decision to send her son to a school with no school uniform. Her choice was made as the other local schools were not up to standard, and she was worried about the competitiveness of the kids with their clothing. But the opposite occurred, and most of the kids, without the pressure of their outer appearance, turned up in non-designer jeans and T shirts, without any reference to Tommy Hilfiger or Nike!! The education of the school performed brilliantly for her son, and he is now at University as a bright, well balanced young man.

Going back to our friend in Margate, would you agree that he was far too harsh on the first day of school, in sending fifty kids home because they were not wearing the perfect school uniform? Then doing the same on the second day with 20 children! Surely he could have given the kids and their parents a warning on the first day, and then carried out his threat on the second – a bit like we give most of our kids a second chance.

Or is this indication of the recent swing to the realms of unreasonable perfection, demanded by Dictators and irrational leaders – which can only end in failure.

So it is not about the flashy trainers and glitzy logos, but unreasonable rules laid down by an unforgiving Head – giving him his fifteen minutes of fame!

BREXIT and its Challenges – The US Holds the ‘TRUMP’ Card

BREXIT and its Challenges – The US Holds the ‘TRUMP’ Card

As we witness echoes of the Margaret Thatcher or the Iron Lady with the recent election of Teresa May – it seems the World has regressed to even tolerate the unbelievable ramblings of Donald Trump.

Eight years ago, we all celebrated the evolvement of the human race in electing a Black President in the United States, and even though our own leadership with Blair was under scrutiny – we slept easy in our beds and walked the streets without looking over our shoulder without the prospect of a Hitleresque regime with our staunch Ally.

I would go as far as to say that the US are in the grip of a hypnotic frenzy of panic seen throughout history in the most extreme cases of fascism.

With his recent visit and meeting with the Mexican President, he has now declared that there will be a wall high and long separating Mexico with the USA.

The Mexican President, Enrique Pena Nieto has retorted with the statement that he will not pay for a wall and that Trump Threatens his Nation and yet we can still hear the cheers of the Trump supporters as he makes his speech of falsehoods.

Is it because nations need to behave like sheep and elect a leader however schizophrenic, who they believe will make their country a safer place to live, with the exclusion of any sense of humanity. Are we that desperate that we will support a mad megalomaniac who is leading a hate campaign in his own back yard.

How long will it be before Trump goes the extra mile, and rounds up all the Citizens of mixed race or colour in his distorted mission to lessen the threat of terrorism and make the US a ‘pure’ country.

It was even more worrying that Trump had a visit of support from the dangerously racist Nigel Farage former leader of UKIP, representing a proportion of our own country in his quest to further his career in politics.

Does Trump not take into account that only a few hundred years ago, the White man invaded his very own sacred society, and killed off most of its inhabitants and certainly its cultural heritage in the Native Americans.

Trump was born into a privileged family, and has never had to suffer hardship, so what does he know about the common people? How far do we have to go to shake the Nation into some sort of reality, and let them know that they are signing their own death warrant.

Wake up America – you are in a downward spiral to Never Never Land.
