As we throw our leather jacket over our jeans or track suit this weekend for our trip to the shops or over our dress up as we go on our dinner date, it is an established piece of fashion we now take for granted.
I personally have around ten leather jackets in my wardrobe collected over the past decade – but then I am a bit of a LJ fan and enjoy my range of styles – the majority leaning toward the biker style jacket.
I remember a rather rebellious aunt, who was a bit of a rock chick wearing one she had saved from the sixties, in the wake of ‘Girl on a Motorcycle’ – well before my time – but I remember being fascinated by her wardrobe and her description of her mentor, Marianne Faithfull – a pioneer in rock chic.
Prior to that the leather jacket was a military protective garment for men, but quickly became ‘cool’ with the emergence of icons like Steve McQueen and Marlon Brando donning their fabulous biker jackets.
It was the Nineties when the LJ really hit the high street with models like Kate Moss wearing one over her ball gown and other celebs as a ‘must have’ fashion accessory.
I recently opted for one in place of a suit jacket with a slim pencil skirt and crisp cotton shirt and stepped out and into my meeting with a confidence and swagger that only a cool LJ can bring to the table.
Biker jackets can be found in many fashion outlets, and come in a range of sizes and prices. You can opt to wear two sizes bigger or go for a tight figure hugging variety to rock those curves.
Reiss is a favourite of Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge, although I haven’t yet seen her donning a biker jacket. This is definitely the ‘princess’ of biker LJs this season coming in at a hearty £375. Reiss Leather Jackets

Sexual attraction is a very powerful tool, which has been the downfall or the building of empires throughout history, dating back to when time began, with the forbidden apple of Adam and Eve.
In recent times, it has been attributed to young women in their ‘prime’, with the more visual allure of physical beauty and aesthetics.
But the truth is out and the power of sex is not just a young man or woman’s attribute, and is not a thing endowed on the beautiful or the rich and famous, as our modern tabloids lead us to believe.
A well-known psycho-analyst who prefers to remain anonymous as he is writing a book on the subject, refers to this widely covered phenomenon and confesses that as a secret from the man cave, it is a myth invented by men to ‘control’ women. He states that when the source of this safely guarded secret is revealed he could be lynched by men for all eternity.
He went on to tell us that his best relationship was with a woman twenty years his senior, and three times his weight. He also upholds the challenge from males and females alike in the wake of this revelation, saying that it is across the board for men in general.
So how quickly are we to believe this ‘new man’, or this liberating revelation? How nice would it be if we didn’t feel intimidated after the age of 30 to be young and slim and have long legs and big boobs and perfect skin.
We have studied this expose and tapped my own research bank to trash the myth and help our sisters to find their sexuality whatever age or shape or beauty.
Take our Prince Charles with the much maligned Camilla for instance. If you had put her up against Diana as a candidate for sexuality and love with our popular belief system, who would you have chosen?
That is just one example. I have another with a friend who is well into her fifties, overweight and not conventionally beautiful, but is a steaming hot bed of sexuality, who has men dropping at her feet, let alone in and out of her bedroom.
How many times do you look at couples who don’t add up to the belief system, with the male partner being ‘better looking’ than the lady, but are deliriously happy and enjoying good sex. It can work the other way round too, but that is another discussion.
It may be that it is too much to take on a lifetime of cover up and discover that we have been duped in one hit. But imagine for a moment it were true. It may be that you have issues relating to age related body image, or have always been ashamed of the way you look.
It could also be that you are aiming for perfection, and we all know that all models are airbrushed these days, so perfection is impossible. But it does not stop us endlessly aiming to drop a dress size or turn the clock back. Nothing wrong with looking good or keeping fit and healthy, but unrealistic goals are not good for morale or long term confidence and body image.
The Goddess of love and sexuality will be celebrating with us as we speak, as these secrets are revealed, and feel she has guided us to this discovery to confirm that our ‘man spy’ could be well on course.

Dame Vera Lynn Centenary Concert at London Palladium Saturday 18th March 2017
Russell Watson, Sir Tim Rice, Alan Titchmarsh, Brian Blessed, Simon Callow, Pam St Clement, Anita Harris, Clare Teal and Una Stubbs are the next celebrities announced to perform in 100: A Tribute to Dame Vera Lynn – a one-night spectacular on Saturday 18th March at The London Palladium.
The new stars join the existing line up which includes singing sensations Blake and Hayley Westenra as well as comedian Alexander Armstrong.
More celebrity artistes who will appear and honour The Force’s Sweetheart on the night of the show will be released over the next few weeks.
Celebrating and honouring Dame Vera Lynn’s centenary year, the show will tell the story of her remarkable life, and highlight her many hits such as We’ll Meet Again and The White Cliffs of Dover.
Commenting on their appearance Blake, who first performed with Dame Vera at The Imperial War Museum at a charity function in 2009, said: “Over the last ten years we have enjoyed some beautiful memories with Dame Vera, performing for her, singing with her and even taking her to the dance floor! Being part of Dame Vera’s 100th celebration is an honour and a privilege for all three of us, it will be magical.”
English actress and carry on film star, Anita Harris, added:“Having been lucky enough to share the stage with Dame Vera and Sir Harry Secombe for Her Royal Highness the Queen Mother the echoes of joy and the delight from the audience when Sir Harry introduced Dame Vera to sing The White Cliffs of Dover still ring so clearly in my memory. Now all these years later I am honoured to be paying tribute to such a wonderful lady.”
Those lucky enough to snap up tickets to this star-studded event will not only be treated to a unique West End experience but will most importantly help raise money for the Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity (DVLCC) – a cause incredibly close to Vera’s heart.
Dame Vera commented:
“I have been involved with children with cerebral palsy since 1955 but one of my greatest achievements was establishing the school for parents, for children under five years with cerebral palsy and other motor learning difficulties. It is with pride that we have now renamed our charity the Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity and moved to a new centre in East Sussex. “My role as president of the charity is still hugely important to me. For a family to be suddenly and unexpectedly faced with the news that their child is affected by cerebral palsy is a life-altering experience. The special attention that their child will need in his or her early years is woefully lacking in the public sector. The free service that our charity provides is a lifeline to families. The Charity will support them through the early years and help to ensure that their child achieves their maximum potential and that more children and future adults will be able to take a full and active part in their own lives and make a meaningful contribution to society.”
